It’s very rare to see a boxer go at a promoter on stage, but Alvarez and De La Hoya’s history warranted fireworks. And viewers got it. It adds a layer to what should already be an explosive fight against Jaime Munguia.
David Benavidez takes De La Hoya’s side in Canelo feud
While there’s no need to take sides in this boxer-promoter beef, a high-profile boxer who feels wronged by Canelo has called him out: David Benavidez.
It’s clear why Benavidez would take De La Hoya’s side: he still feels hatred towards Canelo for not accepting a fight with him. Benavidez wanted it, all boxing fans wanted it, but it simply never came to fruition. Alvarez and his team claim it came down to money, but Benavidez feels slighted.
Still, it was surprising to see Benavidez enter the conversation. Benavidez is promoted by Sampson Lewkowicz and is signed to Premier Boxing Champions (PBC). Maybe something is in the works with De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. Or he just wants to keep angering Canelo.
