Inspector Steve Crabbe described the scene, which caused extensive traffic delays and was only cleared after 7pm, as “several hundred metres long”.
Queensland Ambulance Service medical director Stephen Rashford said several ambulances were sent, along with fire rescue and police.

“Unfortunately two people were deceased at the scene with a third patient suffering critical injuries and requiring resuscitation before being transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital,” he said.
Premier Steven Miles extended his sympathies to all involved in the accident, calling it “an awful, awful crash”.
