This week’s big boxing fight will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and there will be two clear protagonists.

On one side is Gervonta Davis, who faces his first fight after being released from prison a little less than a year ago, and on the other side, one of the most spectacular fighters of the moment, David Benavidez, will once again step into the ring.

Gervonta Davis spotted on a run in Las Vegas while missing grand arrivals

‘Tank’ Davis faces Frank Martin (Prime Video) for the WBA lightweight world title and has absolutely no doubt that he will be victorious in his duel against ‘The Ghost’, undefeated like him. The truth is that Gervonta is the hands-down favorite, given his record in the ring. His criminal record is another matter.

Recall that he was released from prison in July of last year, after serving 44 days in a detention center after a judge ruled that he violated the terms of his house arrest.

This all stemmed from further back, from a car accident he caused in 2020 that he fled on foot. The thing is, Davis was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest at the home of his trainer, Calvin Ford, after pleading guilty to four charges stemming from the aforementioned incident, in which he injured four people, including a pregnant woman.

Instead of going to Ford’s home to serve his sentence, Davis moved to a luxury hotel and then to a new home, without permission from the Maryland Attorney General’s office, claiming there was not enough room in his trainer’s home.

Now he steps back into the ring after his win against Ryan Garcia in 2023. “I’ve been locked up for a long time, so I want a big performance. This kid [Martin] doesn’t bring anything I haven’t seen. He’s just worried about not getting knocked out, he’s not worried about winning. His moves are just faked footwork because he’s a regular, average boxer,” commented the Baltimore fighter.

Davis loves a good knockout

Davis was also asked about how he feels after knocking out an opponent: “It’s better than sex, for sure,” he said. Tank has 27 KOs in 29 fights.

Martin, for his part, will try to pull off the upset: “I appreciate ‘Tank’ giving me the opportunity to kick his a**. He just hasn’t been in the ring with anyone like me,” said the Detroit southpaw.

And let’s not forget David ‘The Mexican Monster’ Benavidez, who will make his light heavyweight debut against former world champion Oleksandr ‘The Nail’ Gvozdyk, in a showdown for the WBC interim title.

This will be the co-main event fight, with Benavidez trying to make a case for the absolute titles that will give him star status in the near future. Also known as ‘El Bandera Roja’ (The Red Flag), he is one of the fighters destined to become one of the media stars of the noble art.
