The crowd at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena registered the highest attendance for a WNBA in the last four years (18,304), as the Storm took away a thrilling win 82-84 over Caitlin Clark’sIndiana Fever.
Caitlin Clark’s learning curve continues
Caitlin Clark had to face another defense laser-focused on making her uncomfortable for the whole night.
The Storm were successful in their plan as they reduced Clark to just 5 points in the first half going 0-5 from behind the three-point line.
One instance that could be described as another “welcome to the WNBA” moment, Clark found herself on the floor after attempting to drive to the basket with seconds left in the second quarter.
Standing in her way was Storm forward Ezi Magbegor who knocked her hard to the ground after getting an exclamation point-block that sent the crowd to their feet.
Clark was left holding her head on the floor after the play.
The Fever rookie bounced back in the third quarter showing poise and leadership as her team made an impressive comeback that had Indiana up by a couple of points before the start of the last period.
Indiana kept close to Seattle in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter, with Clark scoring two free throws and the team forcing a turnover with 10 seconds to go.
Unfortunately for the Fever, things didn’t go their way and they ended up taking home another L.
Jewell Loyd continues to shine for the Storm
The MVP of the night for Seattle was Jewell Loyd.
With 32 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists, Loyd took off in the first half and continued to split through Indiana’s defense with ease.
Another standout player was Ogwumike, who apart from her defensive prowess, went off with 22 points and 9 rebounds.
Tonight’s game will also be noteworthy for being Nika Muhl’s first WNBA game.
The Croatian player was unable to join her team for the first four games of the season due to issues with her working visa.
The rookie went in for a couple of minutes during the third quarter, but she didn’t have any impact on the game.
Up next for Seattle is a showdown against the Washington Mystics at home on Saturday, while the Fever will head down to Los Angeles to face the Sparks on Friday night.
