Mary Lou Retton is a former American Olympian gymnast and 5-time gold medal winner, who is currently battling pneumonia with the help of a community rallying to support her.
During her tough times in the hospital, one can look back on her most recent video on social media to remember the joyful times she shared with family. It may not have been the happiest memory for her daughter, Emma Kelley, but the emotional car ride after her wisdom teeth removal surgery produced an entertaining video for Mary Lou’s Instagram feed.

Despite obviously dealing with the effects of anesthesia, Emma’s happy and lighthearted attitude are what make the video from January 2023 special. All she wanted was to go to the gym and see her teammates, but when her mom told her she needed to rest, she took it well and remained positive.
“I’m so happy. I have my mom in my car that I love, We’re following my husband” she said to Retton, who corrected her statement to “future husband.” Then came the golden line.
“When is he gonna put the ring on me, mom?” she remarked. “It’s time, come on now.”
Mary Lou had to remind her daughter that she was 20 years old, to which she responded, “oh yeah, I forgot.”
Emma Kelley now attends the University of Arkansas, where she is on the gymnastics team, following in the footsteps of her legendary mother. According to her Instagram, she is still with the “future husband” in question: Hudson Clark, an all-SEC defensive back who is a senior on the Arkansas football team.
“Please show this (video) at the rehearsal dinner,” begged one of the comments on Instagram.
