The New York Jets continue to find themselves in the news for all of the wrong reasons as one of their players was arrested for possession of drugs just days after Aaron Rodgers decided to skip a mandatory training camp with the MetLife Stadium franchise.

Their cornerback, Tae Hayes, was arrested early Sunday morning in Alabama with one charge of possession of marijuana before he posted the $300 bond to be released on bail, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

Aaron Rodgers time in the league makes teammates and reporters laugh during press conference

To be able to have possession of the drug in Alabama, it must be for a medical reason for registered patients proved by the possession of a state-issued verification card. Possession without this can carry a fine of $6,000 or a one-year jail sentence, as long as it’s for personal use.

The Jets released a brief statement on the matter that read, “We are aware of the situation and we will refrain from further comment, as it is a pending legal matter.”

Hayes made one appearance for the outfit through 2023 after being signed to the practice squad in October that year after the 26-year-old shopped around the NFL by appearing for nine different teams including the Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions.

Since leaving the NCAA, he has only gone on to make 14 appearances in the NFL, despite winning the USFL Championship in 2022. after going undrafted in 2019.

Bad to worse for the Jets

The Jets are due to start their preseason training camp on July 23 in preparation for the 2024 season, where they will look to improve on a 7-10 record with Rodgers finally fit again, although he hasn’t covered himself in glory either.

The ex-Green Bay Packer legend and the winner of Super Bowl XLV (2010) has come under criticism for missing a mandatory training camp, although the Jets admitted they’re aware of the reasons why.

It comes as he looks to bounce back from a season-ending Achilles injury sustained in Game 1 of the 2023 season when he was sacked on just the fourth snap of the first quarter against the Buffalo Bills.
