The off-season has not been without controversy for the Super Bowl winners Kansas City Chiefs and Rashee Rice has been at the centre of it.

The wide receiver has been one of the major stories of the NFL off-season after racking up eight felony charges and a lot of fines following a car crash on the Dallas highway.

Patrick Mahomes trick throw ends with better catch from new Chiefs WR

After so much legal trouble, Rice is trying to get back into the swing of things with football and prepare for the new season with the Chiefs.

He made a statement at the Chief‘s OTAs: “I’ve learned so much from that. All I can do is mature and continue to grow from that. This is a step in a better direction for me.”

The WR also added later: “Accidents and stuff like that happen, but all you can do is move forward and walk around being the same person, try to be positive so that everybody can feel your love and your great energy.”

Andy Reid’s faith in Rice

Naturally, Chiefs coach Andy Reid has had a lot of calls to make when it comes to Rice and Harrison Butker who has had his own separate issues.

Reid recently said about Rice and the incident: “The way I’d leave it with you . . . is we knew enough to draft him, you know, and then we just went with the process and we, you know, we found that it was satisfactory for us.”

Rice was reportedly involved in a shooting incident during his SMU days, this being one of the incidents that Reid is referencing.

Someone that has stood by Rice is quarterback Patrick Mahomes, which has undoubtedly helped his case.

“It’s not just me. [We’re all] just trying to do whatever we can to teach him how to learn from his mistakes,” said Mahomes two weeks ago.

“Obviously, that was a big mistake. You get to learn from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again and try to do whatever you can to be the best person you can be in society, not only for yourself but for the people around you. I think he is doing that.

“Right now, we’re just going to keep trying to do whatever we can to get him on the right path, so that he can be a great football player, obviously, but we want to be a great person, too.”
