David Haye has expressed strong disapproval of the referee’s decision to allow the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury to continue in the ninth round, believing that Usyk should have been awarded a knockout victory. In the ninth round, Usyk unleashed a series of powerful punches that left Fury visibly shaken, but the referee permitted Fury, known as ‘The Gypsy King,’ to proceed, and he managed to survive until the end of the round. After twelve rounds, Usyk won by split decision.

Haye claimed that the referee “should have stopped” the fight when Usyk had Fury staggering from a relentless barrage of punches that shifted the fight’s momentum.

Tyson Fury blames judges with unbelievable excuse for his loss to Oleksandr Usyk

The heavyweight showdown in Saudi Arabia saw Usyk initially on the defensive as Fury controlled the early rounds. However, Usyk turned the tables with precise, forceful strikes that left Fury dazed.

Haye criticized the referee decision

When the referee intervened to give Fury a count as he stumbled across the ring, held up only by the ropes, Haye argued this was a poor decision that denied Usyk a definitive knockout victory and the chance to become the undisputed champion in a more decisive manner. Despite this, the judges ultimately awarded Usyk the win via split decision.

“First and foremost, the fight should have got stopped in the ninth round,” David Haye told TNT Sports Box Office.

“I don’t know why the referee gave a count. I understand they say if the ropes are keeping you up, that means if anybody is on the ropes getting hit the referee should jump in and give you a count.

“I thought the ref should have let him either finish him off or stop the fight. It seemed like a fair and square stoppage from my point of view.

“He was all over the place, he falls over. If it was around the other way, if Tyson Fury was doing this to Usyk the referee would have probably stopped it.

“But for some reason the referee gave him a count and gave him a long 20-second count.

“The referee stopped him from finishing his opportunity. Everybody at ringside was really upset at the referee.”
