The LSU Tigers women’s basketball team lost against Iowa in Monday’s Elite Eight matchup in the March Madness NCAA tournament. Tigers lost 94-87 against a powerful Hawkeyes team led by Caitlin Clark, widely considered the greatest shooter in NCAA basketball history. Trying to make sense of why the LSU Tigers lost, Shannon Sharpe wanted to analyze this alongside Chad Ocho Cinco in the latest installment of Sharpe and Chad’s ‘Nightcap with Unc and Ocho’ podcast. According to Sharpe, there is one main responsible for the Tigers’ loss on Monday. He praised Clark for her 41-point performance but he was a little harsh towards someone specifically.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s final interaction that everyone was waiting to see

Sharpe said: “Kim Mulkey did a terrible job at coaching because they did nothing to get the ball out of [Clark’s] hands. Look at how UConn approached [USC guard] Juju Watkins [in the other Elite Eight game Monday]. She got the ball [and] they blitzed her … You mean to tell me, Caitlin Clark, who arguably is one of the greatest shooters in college history, you go under the screen? There is no possible way you rehearsed that. I’m going to say Kim Mulkey, she coached them to go over the screen and that was just them going under the screen … I just didn’t see enough adjustments … One of two things needed to happen: you make her a scorer or you make her a facilitator, but you can’t let her do both.”

Can LSU recover from this defeat?

Considering they still have one of the most exciting talents in recent NCAA history with Angel Reese, it is safe to think that the LSU Tigers have a lot to look forward to. Coach Kim Mulkey will have to adjust some aspects of her tactics for next season but she needs to remain composed because she has a wildly talented group of players. Although her strategy did have some questionable moments, Kim Mulkey still has the trust from all her players for the upcoming seasons. Watching how the game developed on Monday, perhaps Mulkey could’ve double-teamed Clark in order to prevent her from scoring 41 points. But overall, the Tigers will be able to recover from this setback.
