Strictly Come Dancing fans were in tears within minutes of the new series starting after Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly made an announcement.
The new 2023 season kicked off with a group professionals dance which saw the pros like Katya Jones, Nadiya Bychkova and Lauren Oakley involved.
But Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman addressed the very obvious absence of one Strictly favourite.

Tess told viewers: “We are of course missing one of our Strictly professionals, our gorgeous Amy Dowden is unwell and she can’t be with us at the start of the series. She is our Welsh dragon and we know she’ll be back soon.”
Claudia added: “Amy from our entire Strictly family, we’re sending all our love and we cannot wait to have you back on the dancefloor. This one’s for you.”
Viewers were left in tears after the announcement, which confirms that Amy Dowden will be back on the dancefloor whenever she is well enough to do so and we wish her all the best in her recovery.

The Welsh Strictly pro dancer is undergoing intensive chemo after being diagnosed with cancer for the second time this year following a double mastectomy in June.
Previously, Amy opened up on how her further cancer diagnosis had been a blow.
She explained: “For me my journey everything changed. I was originally going to have a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment. But then, after my MRI, they found another tumour so then it changed into a mastectomy and then, after my mastectomy, unfortunately, they found even more tumours.”
