Spurs have lost three of their last four matches against Newcastle, including a 4-0 defeat away from home last month.

So, it’s looking good for the Magpies. Or, is tonight when Tottenham get one back?

That’s full-time at 1-1.

So, we’re heading to pens. Time to see some net.

Why do we need a result for a friendly? Bit of fun, really.

Although the players, look, to be frank, a bit exhausted by the thought.

That’s a bit of fun. They’ll be no extra time tonight with the game going straight to penalties if the score remains the same at full-time.

So far, that’s looking likely. Although that might be extra motivation for the jet-lagged players to put one away, so they can put themselves away.

Also a bit of experience for the younger ones, as all the starters are now sitting on the bench.

Tottenham 1 Newcastle 1, 89 minutes.

Emerson Royal had a header to the right side of the six yard box following a corner, but it was missed.

It followed an attempted miss from a Spurs player Dane Scarlett, who had a shot from the centre of the box.

Tottenham keep attacking, Newcastle keep defending. The score stays the same.

Tottenham 1 Newcastle 1, 83 minutes.

Even more subs roll in – which can’t be said of the goals (or shots, really).

Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has come on to replace Brandon Austin in front of the net.

Another change from Ange: Radu Dragusin and has also come off, replaced by Tyrese Hall.

For Newcastle, Lucas De Bolle is replaced by Bruno Guimarães, Ciaran Thompson is replaced by Emil Krafth, Travis Hernes is replaced by Elliot Anderson and Dylan Charlton replaced by Lewis Hall.

That’s a nice moment.

Garang Kuol has come on and made his debut in the black and white stripes in front of his home crowd.

Kuol left Australia at the end of 2022 as an audacious 18-year-old talent but has struggled overseas.

He joined the Premier League club at the start of 2023 on a four-year deal, and spent his first two seasons in Europe on loan – with Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish League and then with Dutch outfit FC Volendam. He has struggled for game time and scored just two goals across 23 matches.

But it’s nice to see him out on the park tonight.

Tottenham 1 Newcastle 1, 76 minutes

The Magpies have made three changes.

Amadou Diallo, Alex Murphy and Harrison Ashby have all come on, with Harvey Barnes, Dan Burn and Harrison Ashby all off the park.

The crowd opened the second half a little flat, perhaps because of the exit of several star players although fans who have attended friendlies before would have known to expect such wholesale changes.

The only cohort of MCG inhabitants who were up and about were the seagulls who have been out in numbers since soaring in just before half-time.

But some life came back into the stadium when the two clubs exchanged some attacking chances.

I hope those in the stands can enjoy the last half hour of this match as you never know when the next opportunity will arise to see these clubs or players in Australia again.

Enjoy it while they are here.

Tottenham are dominating the possession, with Newcastle only getting patches of play, however can’t capitalise on the scoreboard. They now have to battle some light rain, which coming from England, you’d think they’d be well accustomed to.

Spurs are up to almost 60 percent of all ball time and have had nine shots, with just the one goal.

The crowd figure is close to the expected (and hopeful) 80,000, with 78,419 braving the Melbourne crowd to see their beloved EPL sides.

Tottenham 1 Newcastle 1

Ah, it was nice to see him play while it lasted. Star Son Heung-Min has come off, along with Pape Matar Sarr.

He left the park to a roar from the crowd.

Bryan Gil and Jamie Donley have come on to replace the pair.

Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp has received the first yellow card of the night, which he copped for a bad foul.

It was clear holding by Skipp of Newcastle’s Dan Burn, but not too much in it.
