Millions of people are expected to watch the total solar eclipse that will sweep across North and Central America on Monday, including a big crowd at Niagara Falls.

The alignment of moon and sun will leave a trail of darkness starting at Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07 PDT (18:07 UTC) and exiting the continent at Newfoundland, Canada, at about 17:16 NDT (19:46 UTC).

Total eclipses happen somewhere in the world about once every 18 months but this one is notable for travelling over and near many populous areas. It will enter the US in Texas and pass through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, according to Nasa.
