A murder investigation is underway in South Yorkshire following the death of a woman in Rotherham.

Officers responded to reports of an injured woman inside a property in the town on Friday night. Sadly the woman’s life could not be saved. Police have arrested a man on suspicion of the woman’s murder.

Today South Yorkshire Police released a statement as they launch an investigation and treat the woman’s death as murder. A 56-year-old man has been arrested.

A force spokesman said: “Yesterday evening (Friday 21 June), at 5.53pm we were called to reports of a woman inside a property in Herringthorpe Road with serious injuries.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.”

A scene and road closures are currently in place in Herringthorpe Road while officers carry out their enquiries.
