The New York Yankees completed an underwhelming 2023 season after not clinching a playoff spot for the first time since the 2016 season, with fans fuming and demanding deep changes inside the organization, believing that it has gotten ‘complacent’ and is being left behind in terms of technology and analytics.
Fans are asking for new faces, and that implies getting rid of GM Brian Cashman, who has been at the job since 1998, and manager Aaron Boone, who has seemed incapable at times and not fit to be the Yankees manager after being appointed since the 2018 season.

However, it looks like both Cashman and Boone will keep their jobs for the foreseeable future as owner Hal Steinbrenner told The New York Post, that he made an ‘intern poll’ within the organization, especially regarding Aaron Boone, asking players, former Yankees, and advisors whether he should keep the manager around and giving him another chance or not.
Without giving them my opinion on the call, they all came to the same conclusion, which is Aaron is a good manager and he should be our manager in 2024. He’s hard working. The players respect him as a manager, they want to play for him and win for him. These are, to me, very important things.
Among the former players consulted by Steinbrenner are World Series champions, Andy Pettitte and Nick Swisher, clubhouse leaders like captain Aaron Judge and veteran Gerrit Cole backed Boone to continue as Yankees manager.

Aaron Boone enters the final year of his contract in 2024, with a club option for 2025 with a record of 509-361 in the regular season and 14-17 in the postseason.
During the 2023 season, the Yankees had the second-highest payroll in all MLB with $278 million, and are expected to surpass the $300 million threshold for the first time ever in 2024, putting them in an extremely dire situation if they want to improve their rosters for next season.
