In a highly anticipated matchup, South Carolina women’s basketball secured a thrilling 76-70 victory over LSU, overcoming a deficit from the first quarter until late in the game. Kamilla Cardoso, the 6-foot-7 senior center from Brazil, played a significant role in the win, engaging in a defensive battle with LSU‘s Angel Reese throughout the game.

While Cardoso‘s stat sheet might not have been overflowing, her defensive prowess was evident, highlighted by a critical block on Reese‘s drop-step in the post during the third quarter. Reese, despite limiting Cardoso to 11 points, fouled out in the final minutes, impacting LSU’s chances in the closely contested game.

Both players finished with a pair of blocks each, and they each made their solitary free throw attempt.

Cardoso’s monster block

In one of the highlights of the game, Cardoso pulled off a monster block to reject Reese in the paint. The South Carolina star then stared down at Reese, sending her a message for the remainder of the game.

Cardoso‘s disciplined play, finishing the game with just one foul, ultimately became a crucial factor. The Gamecocks’ Bree Hall also contributed significantly with crucial three-pointers down the stretch, ultimately making the difference in the score.

Despite a challenging finish, South Carolina extended their undefeated streak to 18-0 (6-0 SEC), while LSU, the defending national champions, dropped to 18-3 (5-2 SEC) for the season.
