Sheffield United captain Anel Ahmedhodzic has hit out at Joe Cole and Rio Ferdinand for claiming West Ham should have had a penalty after he wrestled with Jarrod Bowen in Sunday’s Premier League encounter.

The Blades claimed a valuable point in their bid to starve off relegation as Oli McBurnie scored a 103rd minute penalty to rescue a draw for the hosts.

The match was full of flashpoints as the Hammers twice took the lead before scuppering their advantage and critics including David Moyes later fumed over officiating decisions.

Ahmedhodzic and West Ham star Bowen came together in the box with the visiting winger ending up on the floor as a result of the altercation.

A cross into the Blades area in the final moments of the game saw Ahmedhodzic lose track of the ball and wrap both arms round Bowen with the pair falling over as a result.

West Ham players pleaded for a penalty to be given but referee Michael Salisbury allowed play to continue believing that the coming together wasn’t a punishable infringement.

24-year-old Ahmedhodzic hit back at Ferdinand and Cole’s views on Sunday evening as he blasted the former West Ham pair for being ‘clearly biased’ and suggested replays showing the suspected foul has ‘been edited to make it look like a penalty’.

Posting on X to his 24.4k followers, the Sheffield star stated in response to TNT’s coverage of the incident: ‘Clearly biased. You can see at the unedited footage where he pulls me down with him which makes me lose sight of the ball.

‘Obviously itโ€™s been edited to make it look like a pen to West Ham,’ he added.

Both Cole and Ferdinand felt the Sheffield defender should have been penalised for his challenge on Bowen and awarded a spot-kick that would likely have won the game for the visitors at the death.

Ferdinand explained on TNT Sports: ‘Penalty. He is not looking at the ball, looking at Bowen, hands on him, we can see his number and ball is coming from the opposite side. He’s not going for the ball.’

Cole said: ‘Absolutely a penalty. Last minute of game have to keep your composure, he realises and the panic kicks in, he puts his arms all over Bowen. Can’t see how they didn’t look at that. That’s a rugby tackle.’

Ahmedhodzic also shared a bizarre update on his Instagram account that appeared to mock Bowen to further rub salt in West Ham’s wounds.

He shared a picture of the incident that showed him taking the Hammers forward to the ground with WWE wrestling commentary playing alongside it.
