As NFL players continue to call for a ban on artificial turf, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is advocating for clear and consistent standards for the type of artificial turf used in the league.

Burrow, whose team plays on artificial turf, believes that if the NFL is not going to switch entirely to grass fields, it should at least ensure that all stadiums have the same quality of artificial surfaces.

He stated: “I think the most important thing is having a standard for the turf fields, having each turf field across the league have a standard, and all of them are the same. Everywhere you go that has turf, each turf is different. I think having uniformity across the league would be best.”

Burrow also emphasized the importance of player safety, citing studies that have shown grass fields to be safer than artificial turf. He believes that having a standard for turf fields would not only ensure consistency but also promote player safety.

Last year, the Bengals‘ stadium was among six playing fields identified by the NFL Players Association as using “slit film” playing surfaces that resulted in more lower-body injuries. However, the Bengals claim that their field is safe and disagree with the union’s stance.

Players have expressed their concerns

Despite not calling for a ban on artificial turf, Burrow‘s concerns highlight a growing trend among NFL players who are advocating for safer playing surfaces. Many players have expressed concerns about the increased risk of injury on artificial turf and have called for a switch to grass fields.

Burrow’s stance on this issue is important as he is a rising star in the NFL and has a significant platform to advocate for change. His call for consistent standards for artificial turf is a step in the right direction towards ensuring player safety and promoting fairness across all stadiums.
