Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams will miss the rest of the 2023NFL season due to a torn ACL.
The seven-year veteran, who is a vital piece of the team’s offensive structure, injured his knee during the third quarter of Week 3’s game against the Vikings in Minnesota, a stadium that uses artificial turf.
Williams was first tended to on the team’s bench before eventually being carted off to the team’s locker room. He was later seen leaving the stadium with a full knee brace on.
The team was waiting until further evaluation to determine the extent of the injury, but an MRI on Monday morning confirmed their worst fears.
The 28-year-old’s injury occurred when he got twisted down after an 11-yard WR screen late in the 3rd quarter with the game on the line.
Williams was seen on the ground hurting and had to leave the field with assistance as he couldn’t put any weight down on his leg.

Earlier in the Chargers’28-24 win, Williams scored what is now his only touchdown of 2023, on a trick play with an incredible 49-yard pass from fellow receiver Keenan Allen that put the team up 21-10 in the third quarter.
Wiliams’ tally for the day was seven catches for 121 yards, his best performance in the three games he played.
The Chargers will now have to rely on rookie Quentin Johnston and 3-year veteran Josh Palmer to fill Williams’ absence.
