Slovenian Luka Doncic, star of the Dallas Mavericks, acknowledged on Wednesday that he does not remember a rookie who played as well as Frenchman Victor Wembanyama in his debut after Dallas‘ hard-fought win over the San Antonio Spurs in their NBA opener.

Wembanyama, the first overall pick in this year’s draft and considered a generational talent, debuted with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block in 23 minutes on the court.

“He was fantastic, I told him, he played very well for his first game. I don’t remember a rookie playing his first game like that,” Doncic said after the game.

“I remember my first game, I was nervous. He didn’t seem nervous to me, he played great.”

However, Doncic was the big star of the win with a monumental triple double of 33 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists in a 126-119 win for the Mavericks in San Antonio.

“It all starts with defense. We played good three quarters on defense, but we got 43 points in the first quarter. In the end we defended well,” Luka said.
