New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers could make his return to the field on Christmas Eve against the Washington Commanders at MetLife Stadium, where he suffered an Achilles injury four snaps into his franchise debut back in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season.

Rodgers, 40, was recently cleared to practice and made some incredible plays that proved his commitment. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Saturday night that the Jets QB is “likely to be medically cleared to play this upcoming week.”

While medical clearance doesn’t mean Rodgers will definitely play in Week 16, it’s a step in the right direction, and it’s the date they’ve been targeting for the past three months.

Rodgers taking the field or sitting out for the entire season will likely boil down to the Jets’ result against the Miami Dolphins.

Aaron Rodgers could return if Jets reach playoffs

The Jets and Rodgers will have a conversation about what is the best course of action, but Zach Wilson keeping New York’s postseason hopes alive with a win over Miami would definitely need to happen.

It’s also possible that Wilson continues to play well after retaking the starting QB position last week to give the Jets a victory and helps the team reach the playoffs without Rodgers.

Should that happen, Rodgers would definitely return to play in the postseason, but Jets fans should consider a Christmas Eve return an unlikely present for now.
