The New York Jets are already thinking ahead to next season because they know that a backup for Aaron Rodgers will be needed.
The Jets signed Rodgers to be their starting quarterback for this season but a serious Achilles injury early on means he has not made much of an impact.

Ahead of the new season, the Jets are looking for a quarterback again, this time to be backup to Rodgers. He is fit and impressing on the golf course now, so he will be the number one choice.
The Jets ended up using three different starting quarterbacks after Rodgers was injured; Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian. None were impressive, and the Jets finished 7-10 despite having a top-rated defense and special teams unit.
“We are going to get in the meeting room and go over exactly what we need to add to this team,” General Manager Joe Douglas said the day after the season ended.
“I am sure that is going to be one of the topics that is discussed. We will put a plan in place that helps us to best succeed moving forward. I would say in terms of a veteran backup, that is a high probability.”
Options for the Jets
There are options in the free transfer market for the Jets to enjoy, such as Jacoby Brissett, Gardner Minshew, Tyrod Taylor and Ryan Tannehill. They are all very plausible targets for the Jets.
It seems more likely that they will pluck one of those names from the free transfer market rather than draft a young quarterback to learn the craft under Rodgers. They have got other areas that need to be addressed in the draft.
