Tesco is now selling a fresh sandwich, a throwback to an old English favourite. It’s our familiar chip butty with a twist, and people can’t seem to resist it.

The popular supermarket has added a new item, the ham, egg and chips sandwich costing only £3 to its menu for a limited time. This special sandwich comes on white bread. Inside, you’ll find beechwood-smoked ham, egg mayo, salt and vinegar fries, and of course, ketchup.

The response has been fantastic so far, with one shopper stating: “I’m no fan of supermarket sandwiches, but I’m on a mission to get one of these now.”

Another happy customer declared: “It’s the next best thing to being down the caff. It tasted great! Have it with builder’s tea!”.

Meanwhile, not everyone was won over. Some questioned the incorporation of cold potatoes in their favourite lunchtime snack, asking: “Who thought this would be a good combo?”. This hearty sandwich carries 421 calories and contains more than a quarter of the recommended daily salt intake (1.65g) and nearly a fifth of the recommended fat (13.1g), reports Birmingham Live.

Shoppers with Clubcards can also take advantage of the bargain £3.40 meal deal featuring this sandwich. Sarah Bryer, one of Tesco’s sandwich creators, believes it could become a breakfast staple.

She explains: “We know how well loved the chip butty is with the nation, plus we have seen a massive surge of people admitting their guilty pleasure of a crisp sandwich on social media, combined with British pub favourite ham, egg and chips. The mini salt and vinegar fries give a crunch to the Beechwood smoked ham and chunky, rich, egg mayonnaise.”

The sandwich is part of a new “global cuisine” range that includes tasty options like a Buffalo Chicken and Blue Cheese Wrap and a Korean Inspired Spicy Gochujang Chicken Sub.
