Aldi has introduced new rules for its £3.30 bags filled with at least £10 worth of food. The budget supermarket’s partnership with Too Good To Go has led to Aldi customers saving an impressive £7 million.
Since joining forces with the world’s largest surplus food platform in February 2023, Aldi has sold over half a million bags, contributing to an estimated reduction of 1,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions. These Surprise Bags are packed with items nearing their sell-by or use-by dates and are purchased for just £3.30, despite containing groceries valued at a minimum of £10.
The supermarket chain has now revealed the top locations where customers have made the most savings, ranging from Birmingham and London to Glasgow and beyond. Birmingham is at the forefront, with around 14,000 Surprise Bags bought, resulting in customer savings of over £270,000, reports Stoke on Trent Live.

Londoners are not far behind in the savings game, having collected 11,800 bags and pocketed savings exceeding £230,000. In Liverpool and Northampton, shoppers have saved around £130,000 and £100,000 respectively.
Liz Fox, National Sustainability Director at Aldi UK, shared her enthusiasm: “It is amazing to see the sheer number of our customers that have made the most of our Too Good To Go Surprise Bags since launching last year.”
“This partnership not only allows us to reduce food waste and demonstrate our commitment to being a sustainable retailer, but also enables our customers to access quality food whilst saving even more on their shop.”
The announcement comes as Aldi recently revealed it has extended the collection window for its Too Good To Go bags, now allowing customers to secure a bag up to 24 hours before the collection time via the app. Customers now also have the opportunity to purchase a Surprise Bag on Sundays.
Additionally, Aldi continues its efforts to combat food waste through its partnership with Neighbourly, which has resulted in the supermarket donating over 45 million meals to those in need since 2019.
