Poker is a leading pastime across the globe so it makes sense that we would see celebrities getting in on the action, and we know celebrities love a challenge as well as an enjoyable time. Whether some celebs are passive players or not depends on their playing style. Nevertheless, it’s entertaining to watch them compete. Some have gone on to win tournaments, while others simply do to keep busy. Whatever the reason, it’s easy to see why poker is such an enticing pastime: you get to use strategy and read your opponents’ calls to win. Who wouldn’t like that? Ben Affleck
Known for his superb acting skills, Ben has been famous for an exceptionally long time. He starred in the iconic film Good Will Hunting, which launched his career and for which he won the Best Screenplay Oscar. This was also around the time that Ben first took an interest in casino games, and blackjack in particular, which was more than enough to pique his interest. Ben then went on to learn poker from Amir Vahedi and Annie Duke’s educational books about Texas Hold’em Poker.
In 2004 Ben got his first taste of victory when he made two appearances in the California State Poker Championship, where he won $356,400. He also played against other A-list celebs, and has been competing against some of the very best for many years.
Kevin Hart
We know this comedian for his hilarious stand-up comedy shows and funny movies, and for constantly poking fun at his long-time friend Dwayne The Rock Johnson, but what you might not know about Mr. Hart is that he’s a serious poker player. While he can make you laugh on your couch, he can also beat you at the poker table in the same breath. What’s also very cool about Hart is that he has no qualms about using his comedic skills to his own advantage at the poker table. Hart is famous for having bluffed top poker player Daniel Negreanu, and it was quite a sight to see!
Neymar
This Brazilian striker is perhaps best-known for his amazing talent leading the line for Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazilian national soccer team. The dazzling Brazilian ace has helped PSG win three French League titles in 2018, 2019, and 2020. But while we’re all used to seeing Neymar excelling on the soccer pitch, one thing we recently discovered is that he’s actually an avid poker player. In the Brazilian Poker series, for example, Neymar placed sixth overall and walked away with $1,400. He also enjoys playing online poker when he’s not playing soccer.
Tobey Maguire
While we know Tobey Maguire from a slew of movies, including Spider-Man, it’s also widely known that he thoroughly enjoys a round or two of poker. There are even rumors that the character Player X in the film Molly’s Game is based on Maguire. The actor began his poker career back in 2004 when Canadian poker star Daniel Negreanu taught him the incredible pastime.
Negreanu must be as good a poker teacher as he is a player, because Maguire is now regarded as one of the best poker players in the world. In the World Series of Poker he took home $39,445 in winnings, and he also won the Phil Hellmuth Invitational in Beverly Hills with a winning pot of $28,008.
Edward Norton
We know this Hollywood actor for famous roles in movies such as American History X, Fight Club, and Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk. He also starred in the film Rounders back in 1998. The film follows a reformed gambler who puts everything on the line to help a friend who owes a hefty sum of money. This is where Norton’s love of poker began. After filming Rounders, he took an interest in the game and started playing. Today he regularly plays at charity events. He is also known for competing in several poker tournaments. In 2016, someone paid €100,000 just to play with him.
