For the last few decades, Anderson Cooper has been extremely dedicated to his career as a TV host. However, his profession took a backseat when he became a dad in his 50s. Anderson experienced fatherhood following the births of his two sons, Wyatt Morgan and Sebastian Luke.
Anderson shares his beautiful baby boys with ex-boyfriend Benjamin Maisani. Though the couple is no longer together, the beloved correspondent always yearned to become a parent. He made his dreams come true when they welcomed Wyatt via surrogacy in April 2020.
The Anderson Cooper 360° host first shared the exciting news during an episode of his news show following Wyatt’s birth. While chatting about the COVID-19 pandemic, Anderson took a moment to point out the “moments of happiness” he’s experienced during the difficult time. These special moments included the “joyful news” of his son’s arrival.
“I became a father,” he sweetly revealed during the broadcast. “I’ve never actually said that before, out loud, and it still kind of astonishes me. I’m a dad. I have a son, and I want you to meet him.”
After revealing his parenthood news to the world, Anderson flashed a photo of his then-newborn wrapped in a cozy baby blanket. “He is sweet, and soft and healthy, and I am beyond happy,” the proud papa gushed.
In February 2022, the Vanderbilt author announced the birth of his second child on the show. The surprise announcement started off with Anderson showing photos of his eldest son as a newborn.
“These are the pictures I showed of Wyatt then, taken just days after he was born,” the segment began before the Emmy winner showed more recent pictures of Wyatt. “This is Wyatt today. He is nearly 22 months old. He is sweet, funny and the greatest joy of my life. If he looks particularly happy in this picture, it’s because he now has a baby brother. His name is Sebastian, and I would like you to meet him.”
The journalist went on to explain the dynamic that he and Benjamin have as they coparent their two sons.
“Wyatt calls me ‘daddy’ and Benjamin ‘papa,’” he revealed. “We’re a family. Benjamin is also in the process of adopting Wyatt, whose last name will be changed to Maisani-Cooper as well.”
