Arne Sorenson is an American hotel executive who was the president and chief executive officer of Marriott International. Arne Sorenson was a member of the board of directors of Microsoft Corporation and Walmart, and also a trustee of the Brookings Institution.

Early life
Arne Sorenson was born on 13th October 1958 in Tokyo, Japan. He belongs to Japanese-American nationality and holds Japanese-white ethnicity. Likewise, his zodiac sign is Libra, and follows the Christian religion. He was born to his father, Morris Bo Sorenson, Jr. who was a Lutheran pastor in Japan.

In the year 2019, it was announced that Arne was undergoing treatment for stage II pancreatic cancer at Johns Hopkins Hospital. On 2nd February 2021, the company announced he would take a reduction in work hours to allow for treatment and spending time with his family. Sadly, Sorenson passed away at the age of 62 on February 15, 2021, due to pancreatic cancer.

Arne Sorenson started his career by working with the Washington, D.C.-based law firm ‘Latham & Watkins, where he became a partner specializing in mergers and acquisitions. Then, Sorenson became a senior vice president focusing on business development, also mergers and acquisitions.
And, he also handled the company’s $1 billion acquisition of Renaissance Hotels. He became the chief financial officer and chief operating officer. Similarly, in the year 2012, he becomes the president and chief executive officer. This personality was the first executive outside of the Marriott family to lead the company.
Likewise, he became the CEO of the company which was the $13 billion acquisition of Starwood Hotel Resorts Worldwide, which made the company the largest global hotel chain with more than 30 hospitality brands such as Sheraton, W Hotels, Ritz-Carlton, Westin, and many others.
Similarly, in the year 2018, a security breach exposed over 300 million people’s personal information, including credit card numbers, passport numbers, and other identifying information. Also, he declared that he wouldn’t accept any compensation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He was nominated as ‘CEO of the Year’ by Chief Executive Magazine for 2019. Also, Sorenson was honored by Great Place to Work with the ‘CEO for All Leadership Award’ for the year 2020.

Talking about the romantic and private life of Arne Sorenson, he was a married man. He tied the knot with Ruth Christenson in the year 1984. When Sorenson was in Luther College, Ruth was working at her family’s ice cream parlor in Decorah, Iowa. They had four kids named Astri, Esther, Isaac, and Lars. Moreover, Arne was not a part of controversy or rumors till his death.
