His season-high came in the Orange Bowl when he completed 8 of 12 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown in quarterback relief. Likewise, he started at quarterback, safety, and punter for Alabama in his sophomore season. In 1953, his punting average of 41.4 yards per kick was second in the country. For the 1955 season, Whitworth led a youth movement at Alabama, with only two seniors starting.

His back ailment was supposedly healed, but he didn’t play much in his final year. Moreover, he started as Tobin Rote’s backup in 1956 and split time with Babe Parilli until 1959, Vince Lombardi’s first year as Packers coach. During that season, Lombardi benched starter Lamar McHan in favor of Starr, who would go on to win the starting job.\He led the Packers to an 11-3 record in his first season as a full-time starting quarterback, throwing for over 2,400 yards and 16 touchdown passes. In 1962, he and the Packers continued their winning ways, going 13-1.

Further, his  2,055 throwing yards and 16 touchdown passes, a career-best, guided the Packers to a 10-3-1 record in 1965. He was forced to leave the game after suffering a rib injury on the opening play, but the Packers went on to win 13-10 in overtime, led by Zeke Bratkowski. Starr had arguably his best season, throwing for 2,257 yards, 14 touchdowns, and only three interceptions in 1966.

With a completion percentage of 62.2 and a passer rating of 105, he led the NFL. Likewise, he had his best postseason performance in the NFL Championship Game against the Dallas Cowboys, throwing for 304 yards and four touchdown passes to lead the Packers to a 34-27 triumph.

Bart died of a stroke on May 26th, 2019 in Birmingham, Alabama. Brat Starr was eighty-five years old at the time of his death. Starr had previously suffered from the same type of catastrophic stroke in 2014.
