Smith’s defensive play helped the Bills reach Super Bowl XXV in 1990, but they were defeated by the New York Giants. Smith continued to put up impressive numbers in 1996, with 90 tackles and 14 sacks.

Similarly, he had 65 tackles and 14 sacks in 1997, and despite his age, he still had a decent 50 tackles and ten sacks in 1998.
Smith was a free agent who signed with the Washington Redskins and had 58 tackles and ten sacks in his first season. He finished his career with 200 career sacks, making him the only player in NFL history to do so. Smith was released by the Redskins in February 2004 and announced his retirement from football.
