Christopher Boswell, professionally known as Chris Boswell is an American football kicker for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). He became the youngest player to hit four field goals in a playoff game when he helped lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to an 18-16 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2015 postseason. He attended Rice University, where he amassed 358 career points, second only in school history to Jarett Dillard. He received offers from Rice, Baylor, Kansas State, North Texas, Missouri, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech before committing to play college football at Rice. Whereas after spending the 2014 season on the Houston Texans’ practice squad, Chris established himself with the Steelers in 2015 when he hit 29 of 32 field goals, setting a rookie franchise record. Additionally, he is currently the 4th most accurate kicker in NFL history.

New York Giants

  • Boswell signed a reserve/future contract with the New York Giants on 7th January 2015 and he was waived by the Giants on 16th August 2015. He was re-signed by the Giants on 2nd September 2015. On 5th September 2015, he was waived after failing to make the final 53-man roster.

Pittsburgh Steelers

  • Chris signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on 3rd October 2015, becoming their fourth placekicker in 2015 where he made his NFL debut on 12th October completing all three of his extra points and making a 47-yard field goal attempt in a victory over the San Diego Chargers. He connected on the longest debut conversion in team history, besting Todd Peterson’s record of 46
  • On 18th October of the following week against the Arizona Cardinals, he was 4-for-4 on field goals including kicks of 48, 49, and 51 yards, earning him AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. He is the first Steeler in team history to make three 47+ yard field goals in one game.
  • His 14 field goals are tied for fourth among rookie/first-year players in team history, just behind Jeff Reed (2002, 17) whereas he also tied a franchise record for the most consecutive games played while scoring at least 10 points, tied with Gary Anderson (1985).
  • He kicked four field goals in an 18-16 win in the AFC Wild Card game against the Cincinnati Bengals on 9th January 2016 as well as he set an NFL record for the most field goals by a rookie/first-year player in a playoff game.

  • He made a game-winning 53-yard field goal in Week 12 (26th November 2017) to beat the Green Bay Packers 31-28 as time expired and his game-winner set a new career-long and tied kicker Dan Bailey’s record set in 2016 for the longest NFL field goal ever kicked at Heinz Field in its 17-year history.
  • Throughout the season, he has kicked multiple game-winning field goals in the last minutes, earning him status as one of the Steelers’ “Killer B’s” and a spot on the AFC’s Pro Bowl starting roster. He finished the season tied with Harrison Butker for fourth in scoring with 142 points.
  • The Steelers placed a second-round restricted free agent tender on Boswell on 12th March 2018 and on 5th April, he signed the tender.
  • The Steelers signed Boswell to a new five-year deal, keeping him under contract through the 2022 season on 23rd August 2018, and was later named a captain alongside Ben Roethlisberger, Maurkice Pouncey, and Cameron Heyward.
