Early Life

Christopher Vélez was born on October 31, 1994. His full name is Christopher Díaz Vélez. Presently, he is 27 years old and his sun sign is Scorpio. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, and was taken to live in the Barranquitas Municipality in Puerto Rico when he was only one month old.

Moreover, his mother is a nurse. He is the second of 3 brothers. Christopher started boxing at the age of 8 for hobby and entertainment. Further, his father passed away 14 years ago. His father worked in construction.

Christopher grew up and had his home in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, until on September 20, 2017. Therefore, Hurricane Maria hit the island causing much damage in its path. By then, he was training New Jersey for his fight against Bryant Cruz, and when the strong storm passed, his relatives informed him that about 95 percent of everything they owned had been lost and their houses destroyed.

Then, he took his family to New Jersey for protection. And, then moved them to Orlando, Florida. On July 28, he had the opportunity to inscribe his name on a long list of Puerto Rican world champions. In addition, he has a date with history where he can continue to leave all of Puerto Rico on high.

Once and for all change the course of his history in the sport, to reaffirm that he would stop being that prospect of the year of 2016 to become the maximum Puerto Rican exponent in the world of current boxing, and be called the present of Puerto Rican boxing.

Career

Christopher was challenged for the WBO junior lightweight title in the year 2018. At the regional level, he held the WBO-NABO junior lightweight title from the year 2017 to 2018. This boxer signed with Top Rank in 2015. And, on December 26, 2016, he was named Prospect Of The Year by ESPN Deportes.

He has a professional career of over four years and made his debut in the year 2013. Since then he has been very active in the ring with six fights in the year 2014, another six in the year 2015, then 5 in 2016. And, for the year 2017, he made 3 fights.

In addition in 2015, he signed a contract with the promoter Top Rank and in the year 2016, he was named Prospect of the year by ESPN Deportes. Moreover, on April 24, 2021, this boxer is set to fight Emanuel Navarrete for the WBO featherweight title.
