Cole Sprouse Opens Up About His Mother’s Role in His Acting Career

Cole Sprouse is a well-known actor and twin brother to fellow actor, Dylan Sprouse. Both Cole and Dylan have been in the entertainment industry since they were very young, and Cole recently opened up about why he and his brother got into acting in the first place.

According to Cole, his mother put him and Dylan into acting when they were just 8 months old due to financial reasons. “I never made the decision to join the arts or acting specifically. And so it was never really my passion,” Cole said in a since-deleted audio clip on Tumblr. However, while their mother reportedly pushed them into acting, their father was not initially on board with the idea.

“[My father] desperately wanted us to be normal kids, and my mother wanted us to be a bit more of a caricature of two normal kids,” Cole revealed in a recent interview. He also described his mother as “the tortured artist type” who “struggled” to find her “place in the world.” However, despite her artistic ambitions, Cole alleges that his mother was not responsible with the money they made in their early acting careers, and eventually lost custody of him and Dylan.

Cole became estranged from his mother in adulthood, and has been vocal about the impact her actions had on him and his brother. “In truth, she lost her mind… it’s probably the greatest wound in my life and also the greatest driving force for my continuing in this industry,” he said.

Dylan, for his part, has also spoken out about how his personal issues at home impacted his school life. “I was dealing with a lot of stuff at home that I was bringing to school and taking out on other people,” he said. However, he also revealed that once he was in a “nurturing environment,” he “became a much better person.”

Cole’s story is a reminder that the entertainment industry can have a profound impact on the lives of those who work within it, especially when it comes to child actors. While some may find success and fulfillment in their careers, others may experience trauma and hardship as a result. It’s important for us to acknowledge these realities, and to support those who have been affected by them.
