Daniel Radcliffe had two people in mind when he took on the role of Weird Al Yankovic. He wanted to impress his partner Erin Darke’s parents the most.
The Harry Potter star opened up about their reaction to his performance in the parody biopic, “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story”. This role landed him his first Emmy nomination. The revelation came during the 2023 Emmy Awards on January 15th.
Radcliffe, 34, shared his thoughts during a live broadcast from the red carpet. He was speaking to Laverne Cox, the host of “Live From E!: Emmys”. The event was held at L.A. Live’s Peacock in Los Angeles.
“My in-laws’ opinions were the ones I valued the most about the movie,” he confessed. He added that they were avid Weird Al fans and had introduced him to the artist’s work. “They were very happy, thank God,” he added. (You can see photos of the stars arriving on the Emmys red carpet.)
Interestingly, Radcliffe has referred to Erin’s parents as his “in-laws” in previous media interactions. His recent interview, coupled with his lack of objection to Erin being referred to as his “wife”, sparked fresh rumors on social media. The speculation was that the couple, who have been together for about a decade, might have secretly tied the knot.
However, a representative for Radcliffe later clarified the situation to E! News. The actor and Erin are not married, they confirmed.
