Early life

Édouard Osoque Mendy best known as Édouard Mendy was born on 1st March, 1992, in Montivilliers, France. As of now, he is 30 years old and he holds the nationality of Senegalese/French. Professional career

Edouard Mendy began playing for junior clubs at an early age. He enrolled at Le Havre’s youth academy when he was 13 years old. From 2006 to 2011, he played for CS Municipaux Le Havre. In 2011, he joined Cherbourg and he began his professional football career. In 2014, the club released him and he became clubless.

For a year he became clubless and he was having second thoughts about his future. At the age of 22, he applied for unemployment and began looking for jobs. In 2015, he was signed by Marseille as a fourth-choice goalkeeper, which changed his fortunes. Moreover, he spent the 2015-16 season with the club’s reserves as a backup goalkeeper.

In 2016, he joined League 2 club, Reims. In there, he quickly established himself as the starting goalkeeper for the club. After maintaining 18 clean sheets in 34 games, he led the club to the 2017-18 Ligue 2 title and promotion to Ligue 1. He joins Rennes in 2019 after an amazing season with Reims where he signed with the club for an unknown fee.

For the club, he played for only one season and he helped the club finish third in the league, Moreover, the club qualified for the UEFA Champions League. Recently, in September 20202, he joined the English club Chelsea with a five-year contract for 22 million pounds. In addition, he set multiple records by keeping consecutive clean sheets. He played a major role for Chelsea to win the UEFA Champions League 2020-21 by defeating Manchester City in the final.

International career

At the international level, he could have represented Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, or France. Furthermore, he played Guinea-Bissau in friendly matches against Portuguese teams Belenenses and Estoril. In 2019, he represented Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations. Moreover, Senegal completed as runner-up where he was withdrawn from the team after being injured before Senegal’s final group stage match.
