First Lady Jill Biden attended the coronation of King Charles III in the UK on May 6, accompanied by her granddaughter Finnegan Biden. While President Joe Biden was not present, Jill and Finnegan were seated next to Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska, dressed in fitting yellow and blue outfits for the occasion. Finnegan, the daughter of Hunter Biden and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle, is one of Jill and Joe’s seven grandchildren.
During their visit, Jill and Finnegan also met with the UK’s first lady, Akshata Murty, at 10 Downing Street and attended a pre-coronation reception at Buckingham Palace. At the latter event, Finnegan even had the opportunity to meet Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales.
Although President Biden did not attend the ceremony, he sent his congratulations to the new King. “The President congratulated the King on his upcoming Coronation,” the White House said in a statement. “The President also conveyed his desire to meet with the King in the United Kingdom at a future date.”
It was reported that U.S. presidents do not typically attend British coronations, despite the close relationship between the two countries. Jill was present at the event as her husband’s envoy, but it was not a snub on the President’s part for not attending.
Jill and Finnegan both donned simple but stunning outfits for the coronation, with Jill choosing a light-blue skirt and jacket two-piece, with matching gloves and a bow in her hair. Meanwhile, Finnegan’s pastel yellow dress, cape, and floral headpiece were a perfect match for the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
