David Hogg, founding member of the March for Our Lives, disrupted a House Oversight session on a ban on assault weapons on Wednesday, charging top player politicians with using racist pieces of information to undermine gun control measures.
Hogg, a Parkland school massacre victim, halted Rep. Andy Biggs’ (R-Ariz.) remarks that Americans should be prepared for an “invasion on our southern border.”
Here’s what Hogg Exclaimed in the hearing:
“My high school shooter was antisemitic, anti-Black, and racist.” “The shooter in El Paso portrayed it as an invasion,” Hogg said at Biggs even though he was led out of the committee chamber, referencing a 2019 massacre at a Texas Walmart.
“Those weapons are being shipped from the United States of America.” “They’re not coming from Mexico,” he clarified. “You’re making the same points as a mass shooter, sir.”
The Oversight Committee met to discuss the Ban on Assault weapons of 2021 and the Fair Rights for Survivors of Gun Homicide Amendment.
Going into the intricacies of the hearing:
Assailants equipped with semi-automatic assault weapons murdered 10 Black people in a Buffalo, New York, supermarket; 19 kids and 2 people in the Uvalde, Texas, junior high school; and 7 individuals in a Highland Park, Illinois, at July 4 parade.
In such a post on Instagram, Hogg published a clip of his departure from the committee chamber, stating, “I just got booted out of Congress, and I would do it again.” I’m sick of hearing Republicans repeat the same talking points as mass shooters.”
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) stated that once Hogg was escorted, “I simply want to appreciate the person who could not take it longer and had to express himself.” I understand his anguish.” According to Jackson. “None of the debate on the other side is enlightening. It’s rather insulting. It’s nothing to do with reality.”
