Full Story

Actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson dispelled rumors of their alleged feud during the filming of “Iron Man 2” in an episode of Paltrow’s “The Goop” podcast on April 18. Paltrow revealed that people often asked her if she and Johansson did not get along while filming the 2010 film, to which Johansson expressed surprise and denied any feud with Paltrow, saying that the latter was “so nice” to her on set despite being out of her comfort zone at the time. Paltrow shared the sentiment, saying she was “psyched” to have another woman around in the male-dominated early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

This is not the first time Paltrow dispelled rumors of her feud with Johansson. In 2010, Paltrow denied any rift with her new “Iron Man 2” co-star in an interview with People, saying she adored Johansson and loved having her on set. She also lamented the problem of pitting women against each other, especially in male-dominated industries like Hollywood.

Johansson echoed Paltrow’s sentiments during the podcast episode, saying she felt solidarity with other women in the MCU who were also outnumbered by male co-stars. She said “it was like a big sausage party” during the filming of “Avengers,” in which Johansson played Black Widow alongside mostly male superheroes.

The actresses’ conversation highlights the importance of women supporting each other in highly competitive and male-dominated fields. Pitting women against one another only contributes to the problem of gender inequality instead of addressing it. It also shows that rumors of feuds between women in Hollywood are often unfounded and perpetuate a negative stereotype about women being catty and unprofessional.
