Both Game of Thrones (2011–2019) and House of the Dragon are American fantasy drama television series adaptations of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books.

House of the Dragon is a prequel to Game of Thrones. Martin and Ryan Condal developed the prequel series for HBO, which is based in part on Fire & Blood.

The House of the Dragon showrunners are Condal and Miguel Sapochnik. The “Dance of the Dragons” was a Targaryen war of succession that took place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The series follows the beginning and the end of House Targaryen.

House of the Dragon Cast

King Viserys Targaryen is a “warm, generous, and honest man” who desires to uphold his family’s honor and carry on his grandfather’s legacy.

He is the father of Princess Rhaenrya Targaryen and the elder brother of Prince Daemon Targaryen. This Targaryen patriarch is portrayed by actor Paddy Considine, who earlier appeared in the HBO drama The Outsider.

Fans of Edgar Wright might be familiar with Considine from his performances in The World’s End and Hot Fuzz.

Despite the Targaryen family’s tradition of patriarchy, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the king’s firstborn child, has been chosen as his heir.

Like her uncle, Prince Daemon, she is a natural dragonrider due to her pure Valyrian blood, but as a woman, her claim to the throne is less secure. Princess Rhaenyra is portrayed by Australian actress Milly Alcock as a young woman.

Alcock has already made appearances in the Australian dramas The Gloaming and Pine Gap, which can be viewed in the United States on Starz and Netflix, respectively.

However, this may be her first significant part on American television. Emma D’Arcy, who you might know from the ephemeral Prime Video series Truth Seekers and the Netflix original Wanderlust, plays the mature Princess Rhaenyra.

House of the Dragon Release Date

On Sunday, August 21, House of the Dragon makes its US television debut on HBO and HBO Max.

Fans of Game of Thrones in the UK can watch the series’ premiere on Sky TV, Sky Atlantic, and NOW on Monday, August 22.

The fact that House of the Dragon will debut on Prime Video on August 21 just 12 days before another eagerly awaited fantasy TV series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, adds an added layer of humor to the news.

House of the Dragon Review

The swords, the dragon flame, the Hand, and the Iron Throne are all present in HBO’s eagerly anticipated prequel series. But something isn’t there.

flames from a dragon. violent behavior during a luxurious wedding. A little incest. “Game of Thrones” has returned?

Although there are indications, the spirit is low. HBO’s highly anticipated spinoff series “House of the Dragon” is burdened with respectability. It wants to be taken seriously or at the very least avoid offending anyone. The first season of “Game of Thrones,” which debuted on Sunday, has six of its ten episodes designated as Masterpiece Theater.

“Game of Thrones” (2011–19, R.I.P.) was a soap opera underneath the massive numbers, the Emmy wins, and the pop-cultural dominance.

It was decked out in pricey sword and sorcery upholstery and ornamented with boundary-pushing violence and nudity, but at its core, it was a soap opera.

The creators never lost sight of the recipe. Even though they lost their way in the latter few seasons, they still offered a lavish package of melodrama and spectacle that many people found to be enthralling.

House of the Dragon Trailer

A new, extended trailer gave us our best look yet at the upcoming show at San Diego Comic-Con.

As lines are established between Rhaenyra and Daemon as the current king Viserys mulls over choosing his heir, it provides us a closer look at the political maneuverings of the Targaryen family.

Several of the dragons that will appear throughout the presentation will also be visible. The producers of House of the Dragon said they went to great measures to make each of the at least 17 characters feel distinctive.

HBO has been patiently building up the anticipation for House of the Dragon for months, and they have already given us a ton of trailers. In the official trailer, they gave us a few narrative indications and teased the “ugly game” of what is to come in the new fantasy series.

You’ll see representatives from the Westerosi houses oath allegiance to King Viserys and his designated heir, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen; but, it’s obvious that there are many individuals who would rather see the world burn than have a woman inherit the throne.

House of the Dragon Premier

Let’s introduce the other prominent members of Viserys’ council while we’re at it: Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), who is wed to Viserys’ cousin Rhaenys, and Viserys’ trouble-making younger brother Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), who commands the city watch and murders criminals in the streets, are also prominent characters.

Queen Aemma Arryn (Sian Brooke), Viserys’ wife, completes the Targaryen dynasty and is carrying what Viserys hopes will be a male heir. Viserys and Otto Hightower do not want Daemon to succeed Viserys as the next in line to the Iron Throne if Viserys is unable to conceive a son.

Viserys organizes a jousting competition with all of Westeros’ fiercest knights to commemorate the upcoming birth of his child, including a few Baratheons, a skilled Dornish jouster, Otto Hightower’s son, and Daemon in some stunning armor.

Queen Aemma gives birth while the knights slash each other to bloody bits, much to the joy of the King’s Landing residents watching in the throng. However, there are certain delivery-related issues. Viserys is given an unthinkable decision by the grand maester: either give up one or lose both.

Viserys orders the maesters to operate on Aemma and remove the kid because he is desperate for a male heir. Due to this, Aemma must have the world’s most horrific, medieval C-section, but the baby is saved, and it’s a boy. But the youngster is ill. The birth of Viserys’ heir has the council concerned, so things aren’t looking good.

The next image we see is Aemma’s corpse on a funeral pyre, and next to her lies the dead body of her infant boy.

Rhaenyra says she hopes her father found happiness in the brief time he had a son during the difficult funeral service. The next step is to determine the order of succession once she instructs her dragon to Dracarys her mother’s body.

House of the Dragon Actors

King Viserys Targaryen is portrayed by Paddy Considine in House of the Dragon. Considine has spent many years working in Hollywood and has been in a number of movies, including A Room for Romeo Brass, Last Resort, In America, My Summer of Love, Doctor Sleep, 24 Hour Party People, Dead Man’s Shoes, and many others.

Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon, comes next. In Doctor Who, Smith played The Doctor, who has grown to be one of the most adored iterations of the character in the show. This is perhaps the part for which Smith is best known. He may be more known to others for playing Prince Phillip in the cast of The Crown.

Prior to taking on the role of Alicent Hightower in the HBO series House of the Dragon, Olivia Cooke had numerous film and television appearances. Cooke played a pivotal role in the miniseries Vanity Fair as well as the horror TV series Bates Motel, which is almost more frightening than its inspiration, Psycho. She appeared in one of the Modern Love episodes as well.

Rhaenyra Targaryen, who is portrayed by Emma D’Arcy in House of the Dragon, comes quite close to Daenerys Targaryen, however I don’t think anyone will exactly surpass her. D’Arcy has acted in films including Misbehavior and Mothering Sunday, although her career in cinema and television is still in its early stages.

Steve Toussaint, who portrays Lord Corlys Velaryon, also known as The Sea Snake in House of the Dragon, is the next person on the list. Toussaint has been in a lot of movies, including, among others, Flight of Fury, Judge Dredd, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and Shooting Dogs.
