A loss for the music industry as R&B and Gospel African singer Lionel Peterson passes away at 75
Lionel Peterson had been a South African evangelical performer and missionary specializing in R&B and Gospel worship hymns. He died at 75 and was born and brought up on October 13, 1947, in Alexandra, Johannesburg.
Just as this commemorative album’s 1984 chart-topper was produced, Lionel Petersen, the frontman of The Winners, was also associated with Harari. Petersen started to sing at age ten, inspired by singers including Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, James Brown, Otis Redding, and Wilson Pickett.
Peterson’s musical career at a glance-
In 1984, the Kaizer Chiefs won all significant categories of the National Professional Soccer League whilst delivering R&B and gospel songs for worship (NPSL).
Throughout the late 1970s, he took to the stage extensively with several rock and R&B bands, including Johannesburg’s Miracles and Thunderballs. He afterward relocated from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth, wherein he decided to join The Invaders, another of the country’s leading brands in the 1970s.
However, the Winners’ track We Are Number one was influenced by their Mainstay Cup victory against Orlando Pirates.
What caused the death of the legend, and how is his family mourning the loss-
In 1984, Lionel Peterson created the South African R&B and gospel ensemble The Winners. Preacher Lionel Petersen, a worship singer’s band member, died lately at 75, although his friends and family members have not divulged the reason for his death.
Lionel Petersen, the lead singer of The Winners, had also been connected with Harari when the tribute song’s 1984 chart-topper was produced, and his death has left everybody sad.
He joined the band on the trip for two months to Germany, Holland, and the United Kingdom. The Invaders were founded in 1962 in Cape Province.
