Mingo Falls is a 120 ft (37 m) high waterfall located close to the Indian town of Cherokee in North Carolina, USA.

It is the tallest waterfall in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

How did Mingo Falls get its name?

The term Mingo is a Cherokee word which means “Big Bear”.

The West Indians in Cherokee may have named it “Mingo” hence it is unofficially refered to us “Big Bear Falls”.

Mingo Falls is waterfall which is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

It is a tourist site and is about 120 ft tall making it the tallest waterfall in the mountains.

It empties into the Oconaluftee River, which is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Cherokee township.
