Who is Joey Batey?

Joey was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England on 1 January 1989 – his zodiac sign is Capricorn, and he holds British nationality. He’s an actor and singer-songwriter, who has been credited with appearing in close to 20 movies and TV series, while he’s probably known best for his portrayal of Jaskier, one of the lead characters in the critically acclaimed action adventure series “The Witcher”. It was created by Lauren Schmidt, also stars Henry Cavill, Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra, and follows the witcher Geralt of Rivia who earns for living by killing monsters; the series has been airing since 2019, and has won one of the 19 awards for which it was nominated.

Early life and education

Joey was raised in Newcastle as an only child by his parents about whom little is known because Joey respects their privacy, however, he has stated that both his mother and father are musicians.

Joey became interested in music at a very early age, mostly because he looked up to his parents who occasionally took him to listen to them when they were performing; he became interested in acting while attending a local high school, and was a member of the school’s drama club, appearing in many plays performed both at the school and a local theatre.

Upon matriculating in 2007, Joey enrolled at Robinson College, Cambridge, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2011; during his time there, Joey co-wrote and starred in the sketch comedy show “Good Clean Me”.

Roles in movies

Joey has appeared in four movies, making his debut with his portrayal of Dixie in the 2013 mystery crime thriller “Murder on the Home Front”, directed by Geoffrey Sax, and which starred Patrick Kennedy, Tamzin Merchant and Emerald Fennell; it follows a group of criminals living in London in 1940.

Joey played Eager Chap in the hit 2014 thriller drama “The Riot Club”, and starred as Colin Montcrawknox in the 2016 comedy drama “Bloody Cakes”.

His most recent film role has been his portrayal of Eddie in the 2017 biographical romantic drama “Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool”, directed by Paul McGuigan, and which starred Annette Bening, Jamie Bell and Kenneth Cranham.

The movie follows a young actor and a famous Hollywood actress who have fallen in love, and it won two of the 24 awards for which it was nominated, including three BAFTA Film nominations.

Roles in TV series

Joey made his debut TV series appearance with his portrayal of Edward of Lancaster, in the 2013 episode “The Bad Queen” of the critically acclaimed historical romantic mini-series “The White Queen”. It starred Aneurin Barnard, Rebecca Ferguson and Amanda Hale, and follows three women who want the throne in the 15th century England; the mini-series was nominated for 16 awards, including four Primetime Emmys.

In 2013, Joey played Gaving Redman in two episodes of the mystery crime thriller “Whitechapel”, and the year 2016 saw him portray Gopher in three episodes of the comedy “Mount Pleasant”.

Joey gained recognition in 2017, after having been cast to star as Shelley in the mystery crime mini-series “In the Dark”; it also starred MyAnna Buring and Ben Batt, and follows Helen Weeks who has just found out that she’s pregnant, and now has to return to her hometown which she despises, to also help her best friend who has been accused of kidnapping two teenage girls.

A couple of Joey’s following roles were in the mystery crime drama “C. B. Strike”, the action adventure drama “Knightfall”, and the crime comedy drama “Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators”.

Joey played Bobby Hayes in the 2018 episode “Run Rabbit Run” of the action crime drama “Lucky Man”, and most recently in 2019, he played Henderson in the episode “Revolution” of the science fiction mini-series “The War of the Worlds”; it starred Eleanor Tomlinson, Rafe Spall and Robert Carlyle, and follows George and Amy who are living in London during the Edwardian era, while Martians have just invaded Earth.

Joey’s currently shooting for the upcoming episode “The Immigrants” of the romantic adventure “Billy the Kid”.

Other credits

Joey made a guest appearance in the 2021 episode “The Witcher” of the talk-show “IMDb on the Scene – Interviews”, and could’ve been seen featured in the 2020 documentary movie “Making the Witcher”.

Career as a musician

Joey was a member of multiple bands while attending high school and later college, and is today the vocalist, writer and composer of the indie folk band The Amazing Devil. They released their debut album “Love Run” in 2016, and have since released two more: “The Horror and the Wild” in 2020, and “Ruin” on 31 October 2021.

Joey is also popular for having performed four songs in the first season of the series “The Witcher”: he sang “You Think You’re Safe”, “Toss a Coin To Your Witcher” (which has become a hit on the internet), “The Fishmonger’s Daughter”, and “Her Sweet Kiss”. In the second season, he sang “The Golden One”, “Whoreson Prison Blues” and “Burn Butcher Burn”.

Love life and girlfriend

Joey hasn’t spoken of any women (or men) whom he has perhaps been with, as he prefers to keep the details of his love life to himself. However, there are various rumors circulating the internet concerning his current relationship status, as well as his sexual orientation.

It’s believed by many of Joey’s fans that he’s today in a relationship with Madeleine Hyland, a British musician and actress who’s a member of his band The Amazing Devil.

The two have uploaded many pictures featuring themselves together onto their Instagram accounts, but have both stated that they are only close friends.

It’s also believed by some that Joey is gay, and that this is why he avoids talking about his love life, however, this hasn’t been confirmed, nor addressed by him.

As of March 2022, Joey seems to be unattached, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Joey’s quite active on Instagram, and seems to be enjoying the attention which he’s receiving from his close to 250,000 followers, although he’s uploaded only 20 pictures onto the network, most of which feature him during his everyday life.

Joey likes to read books in his spare time – his favorite author is Andrzej Sapkowski, while some of his favorite books include “Time of Contempt”, “Season of Storms” and “Sword of Destiny”, all of which are from his book series “The Witcher”.

Joey is physically highly active, and has four to five training sessions at the gym every week, thus his muscular body.

Joey has his own favorite actors and actresses, some of whom are Eddie Redmayne, the late Robin Williams, and Natalie Portman, while a couple of his favorite movies include “Les Miserables”, “Good Morning, Vietnam” and “Patch Adams”.

Age, height and net worth

Joey’s age is 33. He has medium long brown hair and light blue eyes, his height is 6ft (1.85m) and he weighs around 190lbs (80kgs).

As of March 2022, his net worth has been estimated at more than $1 million.
