So here’s the real deal. When it comes to “Sweet Home Alabama” crushes, Josh Lucas’ girlfriend, she’s been smitten for a while. But not with Josh. Nope, her heart’s been stolen by Patrick Dempsey.
Yeah, you heard that right. Even though Josh’s character, Jake, ended up with his estranged wife Melanie (played by Reese Witherspoon) in the 2002 romantic comedy, his real-life girlfriend Brianna Ruffalo is cheering for the other guy.
Brianna, an ABC7 Los Angeles meteorologist, was Josh’s date at the March 14 premiere of the Apple TV+ limited series Palm Royale. And she didn’t hold back when E! News’ Erin Lim Rhodes asked her about her “Sweet Home Alabama” allegiance. “I’m Team Patrick Dempsey,” she confessed.
She’s been pretty vocal about her preference, too. She wanted Patrick’s character Andrew to win Melanie’s heart in the end. “From day one, she was like, ‘Oh yeah, you were the other guy,’” Josh recalled. “She was like, ‘I didn’t like you because you like, stole her from Patrick.’”
Josh, who you might also recognize from “Yellowstone,” and Brianna went public with their relationship about a year ago. They’ve even tried to watch “Sweet Home Alabama” together. But, let’s just say, it didn’t exactly go as planned.
