We all know Julia Roberts has a famous niece Emma Roberts, who is also an actress, but what exactly do you know about her kids? Julia is a proud mom of her twins, daughter Hazel and son Phinnaeus, and her youngest child, Henry. She shares her three children with her longtime husband, Danny Moder, whom she married in 2002.
In November 2004, the Pretty Woman star became a mom for the first time after welcoming her twins with Danny. “Mother and babies are doing great,” her publicist, Marcy Engelman, said at the time. Less than three years later in June 2007, Julia gave birth to her third child with Danny. “All of the Moders are doing great,” her publicist announced again.
It wasn’t until her children got older that Julia realized just how much they take after her and her husband. “There’s no way to describe it without sounding sappy or ridiculous because everything in my mind ends with an exclamation point,” the Oscar winner told InStyle in December 2017. “And the thing is, we have these three human beings who are just a complete reflection of the affection we have for each other.”
Julia’s children are one of her biggest accomplishments in life. Even though she’s so “proud of them,” the mom of three knows parenting can be hard work sometimes. “I tried to carry somebody up to bed the other night, and it was just … alright, you’re gonna have to get on your feet and sleepwalk because I just can’t get up the stairs,” she joked.
When it comes to raising their family, one of the most important things Julia and Danny focus on is keeping their children out of the spotlight. Because the Notting Hill actress loves her private time with her little ones, the Hollywood pair relocated from the bustling city of Los Angeles and put down roots in San Francisco. Around the time the lovebirds purchased an $8.3 million estate in the city’s tony Presidio Heights neighborhood, a friend of Julia and Danny’s revealed the move was all for their kids.
“She wanted her children, who are growing up so fast, to have the experience of a city with a different energy and vibe,” the pal exclusively told Closer in June 2020. “Her kids are not movie star kids in San Francisco, where no one cares who your mom is.”
Hazel and Phinnaeus received sweet shout-outs on Instagram from their parents on their 17th birthday in November 2021. Julia posted a throwback photo with the twins when they were newborns, captioning the post, “17 of the Sweetest years of life.” Danny’s tribute to the kids was equally heartwarming, sharing a photo of the sibling duo enjoying breakfast together looking all grown up. “These rabble-rousers … 17 today. Thank you for helping me through fatherhood,” he wrote alongside the photo.
In an April 2022 interview with Extra, Julia revealed exactly how she was feeling about her twins heading off to college in the fall.
“I mean, it makes me a little lightheaded. You say that, I mean, I’m completely excited for them,” she admitted. “It’s really thrilling, and I wasn’t lucky enough to have a college experience. And so, to see how it’s happening for them is really fascinating. And yeah, I’m just, I’m excited for them.”
That same month, an insider told Closer that Julia was “so proud of her children.” The siblings will be attending the same school which many sources believe to be the University of California, Berkeley. “One is studying fine arts and the other computer and information sciences,” the insider revealed.
