Luke Kennard (born June 24, 1996) is an NBA basketball player who represents the United States. For the Los Angeles Clippers, he is a shooting guard. In the 2017 NBA Draft, he was chosen by the Detroit Pistons. He briefly played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils of Duke University before entering the NBA. His father began coaching his son at home. He’d show him the fundamentals of basketball, such as dribbling and shooting with both hands. Luke was ambidextrous, therefore he played with both hands.

Career in High School

Luke Kennard played high school basketball for Franklin School, the same school where he was a student when he was younger. He got a lot of practice at home, so he was already fairly excellent at it.

Kennard was the 12th pick in the first round of the 2017 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons. On October 20, 2017, he made his NBA debut against the Washington Wizards.

Even though he missed some games due to a knee ailment, he had a terrific debut season with the Detroit Pistons. However, he quickly healed and returned to his squad for the remainder of the season.

In the same season, he also missed two weeks due to a shoulder ailment.

Luke averaged 7.6 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in over 70 games. Meanwhile, the franchise assigned him to the Grand Rapids Drive, a Denver Nuggets affiliate team, for a brief assignment.

Luke returned to the Pistons for two more NBA seasons before joining the Los Angeles Clippers in 2020. In the following two seasons, he played significantly better than he did in his rookie season, appearing in one NBA playoff series with them.

On November 19, the team traded him to the Los Angeles Clippers. It took him some time to settle in with his new squad, though. In his debut season with the Clippers, he only managed 8.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

Despite this, he made the playoffs with his new team in 2021.
