Her twin kiddos might be growing up fast, but Mariah Carey wants them to know they will always be her babies! The “We Belong Together” singer shares her two kids, Moroccan and Monroe Cannon, with her ex-husband Nick Cannon, and the pair do everything they can to give their children a good quality of life.
“They’re a lot, but they give me so much love in return. I wouldn’t be the same person without them,” Mariah told People in August 2019. “I think Nick and I have done pretty well in coparenting [and] staying friends with each other so that we can talk.”
However, it wasn’t always that way. During an interview with Us Weekly in April 2019, the former Wild ‘n Out host said it took them a long time to get there. “We got our egos and our selfish behavior, when you put your children first, you realize that it is all unconditional love,” he explained. “All of that other stuff just falls apart.”
Thanks to them putting their differences aside, Mariah and Nick could raise their kids without any limitations. One thing the “Don’t Forget About Us” singer loves to do is keep her children grounded. Even though Moroccan and Monroe live in a luxurious home and have all the best things in life, Mariah said she tries to teach them that not everything is just handed to them.
“Right now it’s like, ‘I want this,’ and I’m like, ‘You’re asking me for something that costs $20.’ I can’t even imagine having, like, $1 as a kid because we didn’t have money going around,” she said. “So they have to appreciate those things.”
Although she limits their spending, the five-time Grammy winner does her best to make her children feel loved. In April 2021, she celebrated their latest birthday by posting a touching video tribute on Instagram. “Happy Birthday Roc & Roe!” she penned alongside a clip, which featured countless family snapshots. “The only birthday I acknowledge. I love you!!!”
Monroe and Moroccan are already following in their famous parents’ footsteps. In addition to Mariah bringing the twins out on stage to sing with her at concerts, Nick also made sure to involve them in his daytime talk show, Nick Cannon, in the sweetest way. The adorable siblings both lent their vocals to his talk show theme song, “Hey Nick!”
In July 2021, Monroe landed her first modeling deal with the clothing brand OshKosh B’Gosh. In the video campaign, Monroe plays a younger version of Mariah in 1980 before she burst onto the music scene. The resemblance between Monroe and Mariah is uncanny.
