Cyril “Sammy” Chung, a well-known Watford F.C. footballer, died on Tuesday, August 30th, at the age of 90. Everyone at Watford FC is devastated to learn of his death. The club announced the news on their official Twitter account.
According to the football club- “The passing of Cyril (Sammy) Chung, 90, has saddened everyone at Watford FC. Sammy Chung was the English game’s first Anglo-Chinese player, and he was only the second Anglo-Chinese player to play in the Premier League. Sammy, rest in peace.”
After completing his national service, Chung, who could play center striker or wing half, joined Reading.
He then made his first professional signing and scored 13 goals for the Royals, which led to a transfer to Norwich City.
Chung’s playing career, though, was most well-known during his time at Watford. He scored 24 goals while playing 242 times for the Hornets in English football’s third and fourth tiers. Sammy reportedly passed away on Sunday at a nursing facility in Shropshire, which his family confirmed.
