Eric Kripke, the showrunner of The Boys, is stealing a page from Billy the Butcher’s book.
On September 7, he moved to Twitter to address the sexist remarks addressed against actress Erin Moriarty, who plays Annie January, a.k.a. Starlight, in the Prime Video series. He titled a story regarding Erin’s comments, “Hi trolls!” “For starters, this is the polar antithesis of the show’s fking message. Two, you’re hurting real people with genuine sentiments. Be considerate.”
Eric added as a last thought, “If you can’t be kind, eat a bag of dks, fk off to the sun, and stop watching #TheBoys because we don’t want you. #TheBoysTV.”
Meanwhile, Erin is keeping herself busy at work. In a photo taken on the set of The Boys season four, the actress and her co-star Jack Quaid gave the camera the middle finger. “Back to my regularly scheduled programming of work bliss with my favorite hooooman(s),” she captioned the photo on Sept. 7. “(If there were no [bird emojiinvolved, ]’s would it be @theboystv?)”
Erin recently said that she has been disheartened by fan remarks on her appearance as well as her character’s actions. “I do feel silenced,” she said on Instagram on September 7. “I’m feeling dehumanized. I am completely paralyzed. I’ve poured my blood, sweat, and tears into this part (over and again), and I’ve GROWN UP in this character’s shoes (*emphasis on grown up – we develop and mature intellectually AND physically).”
She commended Instagram user @butcherscanary for calling out the sexist statements in a blog post, remarking how ironic it is that she has been treated this way since the performance is a critique of such conduct. “I’ve opened up a vein for this role,” Erin explained, “and misogynistic trolling is exactly what this role (Annie) would speak out against.”
Many The Boys actors, including Jack, praised Erin for her bravery in response to her words. He wrote, “Love you Erin,” “We’re all here to help you. You’re a fantastic, talented force of nature, and I feel myself extremely fortunate to have met you. Continue to shine brightly. We’ll handle the trolls. We have your back.”
