1. She Grew Up In Kent

Rosie Galligan grew raised in Kent, where she got interested in rugby after taking part in a tough competition. She later joined the Aylesford Bulls. At the youth level, she competed for Kent in cricket, hockey, and rugby.

2. She Was Born To Athletic Parents

Rosie Galligan was born to her parents, Tim and Holly, in Finchley. Her mother, Holly, is a former hockey captain for England’s Under-21 team, and her father, Tim is a coach for Aylesford RFC.

Her older brother Henry and younger brother Charlie both play rugby and represent Kent  She made her first team debut during the productive 2017–18 season, and her efforts led to her selection for the England U20 team.

3. Rosie Was Diagnosed With Meningitis

Galligan was contemplating how her life had quickly turned upside down while she was alone in her room. The England and Harlequins lock’s condition deteriorated after she started vomiting and lost all muscle control in her legs one evening.

She was immediately diagnosed with meningitis upon being blue-lighted to A&E in the morning. Her international career was put on hold by a diagnosis of meningitis in September 2019 and then a significant injury in January 2020 from a fall during a line-out that left her with a broken leg, an ankle, and three ruptured ligaments.

As a result, she did not receive her second cap until the 2022 Six Nations game against Scotland.

4. She Signed For Harlequins

Rosie Galligan’s rugby career improved when she switched to Harlequins from Saracens. She performed admirably enough to be called back into the England team for the Six Nations campaign, and she earned her second cap more than a year after making her debut against Ireland in February 2019.

Galligan also uses her platform to inform others about meningitis and how to recognize its symptoms. Despite the hardships and stress, Galligan has learned to cherish the “little victories” and times that helped her life return to normal, such as the day she was released from the hospital.

5. She Was Part Of England’s Longest Pre-Season Rugby Performance

Galligan participated in the Honda England Rugby Performance Center’s longest preseason ever for England. She was stronger and more resilient than ever, but it still took her a lot of effort to develop the mental strength required to deal with the selection bubble and training camp crowd. Galligan serves as an ambassador for the Meningitis Now foundation.

There is nothing the former Saracens lock takes for granted now that she has fought her way back into England’s consideration, including her place at a competition that was postponed for a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
