He started playing football for the youth team of Al-Hilal in 2004 and began his career at the club. He has spent his entire professional career at Al-Hilal, making over 250 appearances and scoring over 20 goals for the club in all the competitions. With Al-Hilal, he won six Saudi Professional League, Saudi Crown Prince Cup, three King Cup of Champions, two Saudi Super Cup, and AFC Champions League. 

On the international level, he has represented Saudi Arabia at various age levels. He has represented Saudi Arabia at U23 and the senior level. He made his senior international team debut for Saudi Arabia on 14 October 2012 at Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium in al-Hasa Arabia. He has represented Saudi Arabia at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Since making his debut, he obtained over 60 caps for Saudi Arabia.
