She has been part of our morning routine every day for quite some time now, but Today cohost Savannah Guthrie is more than just a broadcast journalist — she is also a wife to Michael Feldman and a mother to two wonderful kids!
Savannah has worked on the popular NBC news show since 2012, and with every new episode, her fans learn more about her. The TV personality has been married to Michael since 2014 and they share their two kids Vale and Charles. In August 2014, Savannah gave birth to Vale in her 40s and she confessed that journey had its ups and downs.
“I always wanted to be a mom, and it took us so long to get married — we dated for so long — that we thought maybe it was too late and we’d lost our chance,” she told People in April 2019. But when the duo found out they were going to be first-time parents, they could barely contain their joy.
“I don’t think there were two happier people on this planet,” Savannah gushed. Although she dreamt of having children at a younger age, the NBC star soon learned why waiting to start a family could also be a good thing. “I definitely have a good head on my shoulders,” she explained. “I am able to prioritize, and I think there’s a luxury to feel calm enough and not to feel the same pressures as in your 20s and 30s, when you are really trying to make your career happen.”
Now as a mom of two, Savannah does everything she can for her children. During the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the journalist was sometimes working from home and playing board games with Vale and Charles to pass the time. She was even keeping her little ones safe by creating a fun hand-washing game she liked to call the “corona shuffle.”
“We do a little dance and we scrub our little hands,” Savannah sang in an Instagram clip with her children at the time. “We get soap under our nails. What’s it called?”
“The corona shuffle!” Vale chimed in. If anyone could make handwashing fun, it’s definitely Savannah.
Savannah and her Today costar Hoda Kotb both became parents later in life and have shared what it’s like to raise their little blessings.
“Hoda and I are both at a point in our careers where we have a lot more certainty about our schedules — that helps,” Savannah told Good Housekeeping in March 2022. “By this time in life you’ve seen a few things and you know how to weather the ups and downs. I’m glad my kids don’t have the stressed, anxious and insecure 30-year-old version of me. The peace and calmness that comes with age is a great thing for kids to see in action.”
