Sofía Vergara is opening up about her split from Joe Manganiello. It’s been about half a year since the Magic Mike star, 47, and the Modern Family actress, 51, filed for divorce. Now, she’s setting the record straight on what caused their separation.
“My marriage ended because my husband was younger,” she confessed. He had a desire for kids, but she didn’t want to be an older mom. This revelation came during a recent interview with Spanish newspaper El País.
“I didn’t want to be unfair to the baby,” she explained. While she respects those who choose to have children later in life, she admitted, “that’s not for me anymore.”
Sofía, who already has a son, Manolo, with her ex-husband Joe Gonzalez, is ready for a new phase. “I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother,” she stated.
She continued, “So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children.” She’s nearing menopause, and she sees it as a natural progression.
“When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while,” she said. Then she’ll hand the baby back and continue with her life. She concluded, “that’s what I have to do.”
